Q: How much will it cost to do a total bathroom remodel?
I just moved into a new house and it has a seventies style bathroom. The toilet and bathtub are orange and the sink is a pea-green color. You don't even want to know about the laminate flooring. The whole thing needs to be redone. How much would it cost to do a total bathroom remodel?

It's a pretty open ended question with a lot of ifs. As I'm sure you understand it's best to have a plan and contractor to actually talk to you, see the job and put real numbers to it.
A lot depends on your choices, formica or marble tops, vinyl or tile floor, fiberglass or cast iron tub, tile surround or plastic, types of fixtures and faucets, color of fixtures and faucets...you get the idea
Having said that, There is a cost vs value report that shows a mid-range bath remodel for Seattle to "average" $16,000. This includes updating a 5 x 7 bath, replace all fixtures (with standard white) and faucets, ceramic tub surround and floor and solid surface counter top
To give you a sense of range, an up-scale remodeling project can "average" $52,000
So the ballpark is between 16 and 52,000. I've done some for less and some for much higher. Everything depends on your choices, conditions of the jobsite and many other variables.
Please remember these are ballparks and average prices mean it can be lower, and more likely higher than what you envisioned. I've yet to meet an "average" customer. :)
