Q: Tub is crumbly behind the overflow drain. Do I have to replace the tub?

We had a handyman put in a rubber gasket, which he said wouldn't last forever, and he suggested that we replace the tub. This is the cheapest of cheap condos, and we want to move out in another year. So I want to be cost-effective and cost-realistic about this. But on the other hand, I would feel ethically compromised if I did nothing and sold the place knowing that the new owners might end up paying $600 to fix the downstairs neighbor's ceiling -- like we did.
