Q: How do I know what colors to use for my accent wall?
I am painting my bedroom and I don't know what colors to use. All I know is that I want to have an accent wall. What are some good colors to use with accent walls? I am totally open to redecorating!
You want to start with your comferter or drapery or carpet. This will help you get started. Paint your ceilings and trim with a standerd white (swiss coffee). This will give you some depth. Using a dectortive piece (pillows, comferter, pictures) pull a light or mid tone color for your main wall color (three walls). Use the same method in finding a accent color but looking for a dark color insted of a light or mid tone color. Home depot has a computer eye that can macth any color you bring to them (just bring in your pillow or what ever you have that has a color on it that you like). Home depots Bear brand paint is a pretty good paint as well. They also have a good color selection. Take your time and buy the sample paints first(about three bucks) and put them on the walls before you buy the paint. Colors will change their look when applied on the wall. If you are doing the work your self (wich I don't reconmend) buy tape(blue), plastic, drop cloths, spakle plus putty knife, caulking plus caulking gun, brushes, paint pales, roller handle, roller exstinchion pole, roller covers (half inch by nine inch) and of course paint (flat for ceilings and walls and semi gloss for the trim).Primer is only for bare wood or new sheet rock, you can spot prime any spackle spots with the finish flat paint.
