Q: How do you know how much paint to buy?
Is there a formula to calculate how much paint to buy? Thanks.

Most paint cans show the average coverage, can be 250 to 350 square feet per gallon. So you need to know your wall square footage. That being said, there are other things to consider. Color and quality of paint will affect coverage rate. Often times a "cheaper" paint will require two coats to provide the same coverage as a quality paint.

In order to find out how much paint you need; multiply the length of the area by the width. Then check the paint you are using to see what the coverage is.
For example.
If your wall you're painting is 10' long and 8' hight you would needenough paint to cover 80 square feet .
In short measure all the walls and multiply by the height this will give you the total square footage needed.
