Q: What are common decorating faux pas made by homeowners who do not consult an interior designer?
I would love to know the most common decorating faux pas made homeowners who redecorate themselves. I'm sure it would be useful for other homeowners to know as well! Thank you for your insight!

Austin, TXA: Common Faux Pas of do it yourself Decorating
One the biggest mistakes I see when homeowners do their own decorating is the size of their furniture. Usually it is out of proportion for their rooms, usually too big. They love the furniture when they see it in a store, but, do not realize when they get home that their room is so much smaller than the store they were in.
Another area I see quite a bit of error in when homeowners redecorate themselves is choosing paint colors. Paint stores usually have florescent lighting which is a very cool light, more like the light you see on a cold morning. Most people do not have florescent lighting in all of the rooms of their home, way too cold and bright and uncomfortable to live in. So when they take their paint samples home they do not look anything like what they saw in the store. The lights that you can look under in some paint stores to see the color in softer light does not work well either in determining paint color as every homes light and shadow in their rooms is so different.
