Q: About how much should it cost to have a built-in bookcase and cabinet built in our living room?
Hi, we'd love to put a built-in bookcase in our living room. Something that is three to four feet wide and simply painted (not stained wood). It would be inset and take a bit of room out of a very large hall closet we have. Any idea on what something like this might cost?

It is always hard to give an answer to how much a fully custom piece of furniture should cost . In your case, you also need the closet wall to be cut away, reframed, and then sheet rocked and spackled. Then the carpenter can begin to make the cabinet-- As you can see it is a fair amount of work. Another option would be to purchase a simple book case at an unpainted furniture store , and have your carpenter insert the case in the wall and apply moldings around the case. A small piece of crown at the top would be a nice touch. But to your question-- To do the work as mentioned would take 2-3 days, and cost $1200 to $1800 Dollars on Long Island NY
