Q: What would you do first? I need to recarpet, and paint the interior of the house.

I would paint the interior of the house first. That way if there are any accidents it's on the old flooring. Then after you recarpet if there are any touch ups needed on the walls, its only touch ups. I hope this helps. God bless!

I agree with painting the interior first, then carpet, followed by any interior touchups.

Salem, ORA: Paint or carpet first?
In total agreement with the other responses here... paint first. The old carpet acts as a "drop cloth". Following the installation of the new carpet, it is quite easy to quickly apply touchup where needed.

I have moved into 3 new homes with the same issue. In one, I painted first. After laying the carpet, arranging furniture etc., I discovered I had selected the WRONG paint color. With the sun, shadows etc., the paint color was horrid. Had to redo it all!!!! Other two homes, I laid the carpet first, brought in the furniture THEN selected the paint that looked best with light, furniture etc. Painters are extremely careful and "accidents" were not an issue. It's called a DROP CLOTH.
