Q: Should we go with a nice berber carpeting or engineered hardwood floors?
Which is going to have more durability and be more cost effective over the long haul, berber carpeting or engineered hardwood floors? I love the way berber feels under my feet, but I also love the look of hardwood floors. ...So, I would love to hear which is the smart decision in the long run. Thanks!

Hardwood floors can last a lifetime if cared for properly, meaning that the long term cost of wood floors can be lower than the periodic replacement costs of carpet. In order to enjoy the wood floors more, use area rugs in sitting areas, dining rooms and other areas. If you like berbers, buy a carpet remnant and have the edges bound to make a finished rug. When used with a low profile area rug padding you get the soft feel and warmth of carpet in the areas you use the most. The use of area rugs also protects your wood flooring, and should also be used at entrys, and high traffic areas like hallways. Runners and accent rugs are perfect for these areas. Enjoy the best of both worlds- the beauty of wood and the warmth and comfort of carpet- bu using rugs on your wood floors.

Tough question. It depends. If you have large pets and kids, then it may make sense to have carpet as it is more affordable to replace. If you dont have large animals and there are no kids or your kids are older, then hardwood will outlast carpet and you will get your money out of your flooring in the long run.
