Q: If I am going to use an area rug with laminate flooring can I use luan under most of the rug area?
I am looking at laying laminate flooring in my living room which will then have an area rug covering a large part of it. It seems a waste of money to put down laminate just to cover it up. My question is can I use luan or plywood the same thickness as the floating laminate nailed down on the area under the rug and then the floating laminate on the exposed part? Also if so do I just leave the 1/4" gap around it or is there something that would fill the area and still have enough give to allow the floor to float? Thanks.
