Q: How long after hardwood floors are finished to put down area rugs?
Got new maple flooring in our home. Have nice area rugs to place down. How long do I need to wait to put them down and why?

Gilroy, CAA: Newly Finished Hardwood Floors Take Time To Dry
I am assuming your new maple floors were sanded and finished. Therefore, general rule of thumb says to allow them to cure for up to one month before placing area rugs down to protect them. The finish has to breathe and it allows the flooring to adapt to its new finish.
If they are prefinished floors it isn't necessary to wait. If they are glue down it might help to wait a few weeks as well just in case the glue isn't fully dry, but at that point you aren't worried about the finish.

I am having brazilian cherry flooring installed thru out our home. there is much traffic on a daily basis, so we opted to have a stronger floor. Is there anything we can do to prevent it from darkening too much?
