Q: How does a fine hardwood, such as Ipe, compare to a nice stone with regards to price?
We're going to redo our entry way and I'm not sure whether I want to put in stone or wood. How different is the price between a reasonably nice stone and a fine hardwood?

Ortonville, MIA: Is price really what important in your decision?
I'm sure that you can find material prices on the Internet, and installation prices are too complex to generalize about. The better question is: Which floor would better suit your needs? Wood is a warmer floor; is that important to you? Do you have dogs that would scratch a wood floor or piddle on it? Are you installing over a wooden sub-floor or over concrete? Concrete will limit your choices in wood, and a wooden sub-floor may need strengthening before you can use stone on top.
