Phil, great guesses, but the hardest utilized type of hardwood flooring none of the above mentioned species. The hardest type of hardwood floor species is Ipe. Many folks don't recognize Ipe as a type of flooring because it is utilized primarily as a high end decking material choice. Ipe is used for decking because of it very durable and extremely hard.
Ipe is also known as Brazilian Walnut. BR-111 makes a great Ipe floor. I would highly recommend it for a household or any establishment which will be getting a lot of foot traffic due to its hardness rating. Check out out the Janka hardness scale.

The hardest wood I ever had to sand was called Black Coraco, a Brazilian wood, black coloured,
we sold it in sizes of industrial parquet. Heavier and harder than Ipé.
