A:
GP-CA: Generally it is a steel ball that is shot into the wood so that it will penetrate deep half way. The amount of force is the rate that the wood is given. Hardness does not much tell you if it will scratch more or not. If you use due care with any hardwood floor it will give you service for as long as you want. If you have a commercial building that gets lots of abuse and dropped objects than you might consider a more hard product. Excluding use, in some ways exotic woods typically are more sensitive to more adverse environments.

To follow up GP-CA the Janka Hardwood Hardness Test or Scale is developed by measuring how much force is necessary to ingrain a 11.28 millimeter steel ball half of its diameter into the specific wood flooring species. Ipe / Brazilian Walnut ranks in at a score of 3684 and is the hardest hardwood flooring species. Eastern White Pine is the softest hardwood flooring species ranks in at a score of 380. Of course there are many version but in my opinion Ipe is the hardest that is actually used for flooring. I could be wrong.
The Janka scale is not the only thing to consider when choosing a floor. There are many other variables to consider to find the right species for your home or property. If hardness of the floors is a high priority then look no further than the Janka scale for your answers. Check with your local distributor or dealer for the most updated scale.
