Q: What is the Building Performance Institute (BPI)? Is this a company or a organization? Are BPI's green certifications the best?
John from Four Points Consulting mentioned a group called BPI in a recent answer about making homes more energy efficient. What is the Building Performance Institute? Is this a company or an association or what? Do they have the best green certifications? I'd love to learn more about their programs.

It's very confusing right now to select a green remodeling contractor. There are so many different certifications. I guess some certification is better than no certification. However, I'd love to know what green certifications are the best / most popular. If BPI is it, then great.
