Q: What is the difference in cost for Silestone vs granite?
My wife and I like granite an awful lot. But, we also like Silestone countertops. What is the rough difference in cost for Silestone vs granite? Thanks.

Carmichael, CAA: Depends on the color
Usually the cost of Silestone or any other Quartz product (Caesarstone, Zodiaq, Hanstone, etc), could be more or less costly. This all depends on the color of granite you choose. Granite can range from $7 to $100 per square foot. Go look for granite at a stone yard, get pricing, and then you can compare. Silestone and other quartz manufacturers also have different price levels for the different colors, so make sure to choose your quartz color too. Any granite fabricator can get you a fabrication price and material price for Silestone, and the Granite yard will give you the price for the granite material.
Don't forget that you have to seal granite, and if you choose a granite with heavy veining, your seams will be more noticeable. Quartz does not need sealing and the seams blend better.

Baltimore, MDA: Silestone countertop dimensional trimming
We are replacing a downdraft slide-in range (both old and new Jenn -Air) and have found that the new unit requires approx 3/4" more width than the 27 year old model.
Can the Silestone be trimmed? If so, can it be trimmed on site?
