Q: Are kitchen remodels much more expensive if you put a range and your dishwasher in a kitchen island?
Hello! We are planning on doing a kitchen remodel and are deciding what to do with the kitchen island we'd like to add. We'd like to put our dishwasher and a range in the island. If you are doing a full kitchen remodel, is it more expensive to put elements like this in an island? If so, is it worth it? Thanks.

Any remodels true worth can only be decided by the owner. But if you are going to do a complete kitchen remodel, where everything is going including cabinets and flooring, adding an island with elements such as a range top and built in dishwasher is not too much more expensive. The part that adds the additional expense is getting the electrical and plumbing to the new island. The hardest part will be the drain from the dishwasher. You will have to cut up the floor and run in to the closest drain you can. As far as getting the electricity and water to the island you have two choices. You can either build and "false" column and run them from the attic down the hollow column or you can cut up the floor and run them underneath. The more floor you cut and repair the more expensive if will be. The column, if you can make it work with you design scheme is much less expensive. I hope this helps.

Carmichael, CAA: Island hoods cost much more
Great answer above. Also keep in mind that an island hood are much more than a standard wall-mount hood. Downdraft ventilation could also run a bit higher, and are less efficient (I don't recommend downdrafts). But as David says, what is it worth for you and your home. Some sacrifices must be made in the name of Design and Aesthetics, and if the best option for your space is to spend the extra cash to get a beautiful kitchen, as a Designer, I say do it!
