Q: What are the different types of backsplash tile?
Picking out backsplash tile is frustrating. There are so many designs, colors, and decorative looks. My kitchen cabinets are cherry, and we have marble countertops. I am looking for examples of quality backsplash tile to finish the kitchen. Any suggestions?

There are many to choose from- mostly in ceramic and porcelain. Two new trends to consider: glass accent tiles, which come in just about any color you can think of, and metal accent tiles, which range from clean brushed steels to aged coppers.
I find that the metal tiles pair well with granite, simply because the gold, silver, bronze and copper tones can pick up the veining and color speckles present in the material. Also, metal tiles have a different luster, which adds some textural variety- whereas glass and polished granite have similar reflectivity and glossiness.
It all comes down to how much color you want to implement, though. If you want to utilize a backsplash as a canvas to throw in small pops of color, glass may be the way to go.
