Q: Is there a way to water proof my hardwood for my kitchen?
I have laminate flooring in my kitchen. Our dishwasher overflew. Now the floor is cupping and is honestly shard on the edges. I am coming to the conclusion hardwood and laminate aren't good choices for the kitchen.

Your floor cupped because it is a laminate. Wood will cup also, but requires longer exposure to water and moisture. Most products are only as good as the maintenance and awareness placed upon them. Under normal conditions, hardwood is a fine option for a kitchen. So is laminate. Unfortunately, what happened to your floor is no fault of yours.
One option that may work if its not too late is to remove the water soaked boards, let them dry then reinstall. If they are cupped and already dry, then it is probably too late and replacement will be necessary.
Sorry about your problems and good luck!
