Q: Remodeling Kitchen - what can I do myself to save money?
We are planning on doing a full kitchen remodel. Are there parts of this remodel that I can do myself that will save us money that can be used for higher quality cabinets and counters? Some demo perhaps? Any other suggestions?

A not so simple way to save money during a kitchen remodel is to demo your kitchen yourself. I remember doing it for my parents house. I brought in my friend, my folks gave us food and some money and said have at it. Great stress reliever cracking those countertops. Hauling the stuff out of the kitchen is expensive as well so even renting a bin can save you money from a conrtactor hiring help to have it done.
We saved the cabinets and put them up in our garage. The cabinets were still in great shape and it easily saved some money.

I would advise to do none of the work yourself; mistakes can be costly. However, if you'd like to save money on your project you could do some of the demo yourself. Be sure you don't demo the wrong thing: this is where your project will end up costing the same amount if not more to fix the problem that could have been avoided. To save money AND time during the remodeling process be sure to have all your ideas out in the open and interior design done first. Doing so will save time and allow your project to run as smoothly as possible without design related delays.
