Q: Do zinc countertops or pewter countertops cost more?
A follow up question about zinc countertops... I read that zinc and pewter countertops are somewhat similar in look. What about cost? Any other reason to choose one over the other? I am so excited about the idea of metal countertops! I think that will be so beautiful and different. Thanks!

savannah, GAA: zinc versus pewter
As a manufacturer of custom cast zinc and cast pewter countertops, it is true that pewter is the more expensive of the two metals. It simply costs more to purchase. Pewter tends to have a more shiny and bright appearance while zinc is a more dull, blue-grey matte finish. Both are beautiful and each metal due to it's low melting point can have just about any ornamental edge design you can think of.. Which also can dress up or down the look of a cast pewter countertop. I do recommend that you look for a craftsman who works with cast rather than sheet zinc or pewter. The difference is that ahem tends to look cliniccal.. Like stainless.. While a cast zinc or pewter top is 100% hand-crafted And the finished product looks like an authentic old-world french countertop. The edge detail you choose add a modern or ornate framing to your countertop depending on the final look you are wanting to achieve. I can tell you that clients love their metal surfaces..they are easy to maintain and take hard wear.
