Q: Which countertop materials can you sit hot pots and pans on?
Which countertop materials can take the heat of hot pots and pans without being damaged? I don't want to have to throw down potholders whenever I'm preparing food.

Carmichael, CAA: Your best bet is Granite or Quartz- here is why
Yes: Granite, Soapstone, Quartz, Ceramic Tile, Stainless Steel- these materials you will not need to worry about.
No: Corian (or any other plastics), Laminate, Wood- while Marble & Concrete are both heat resistant, a surface discoloration can happen and should be avoided.

Mansfield, TXA: Definitely Not Granite
I don't know about the last person, and this feed is really old, but you should definitely not place hot pans or pots on a granite countertop. The reason is you risk the chance of your countertop cracking!
