Q: How can renovate cement stairs in order to add regular carpet on top? We were told the only way was to demo the cement stairs and rebuild as wood.

The main stairs to our basement are made out of cement. Currently they have a thin outdoor carpet glued on them. Because we are going to finish the basement, it would be nice to make the stairs nicer -and softer - and add padding and normal carpet. We were told regular carpet can't be glued which is understandable, but has anyone ever attached wood to the cement stairs or something like that in order to install regular carpet? We don't really want to spend the $$$ it would take to demo the cement and rebuild regular wood stairs. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
