Q: How much does it cost to get your flat-panel TV installed professionally?
After being unemployed for 3 1/2 months, I just got my first big paycheck. I would love to upgrade my TV and get a nice big flat-screen television. I want this new TV to look nice, though, so that my wife doesn't brain me for getting something so frivolous. What does it cost to get a flat-panel installed by a professional who could mount the TV on the wall and run the cables through the drywall? Thanks for the help. I'm dying to get rid of my old Sony CRT, but I don't want my wife to kill me in the process! Thanks.

Now, a little lesson on hiring from a sign on the side of the road.
Lately here in Atlanta the street corners have be inundated with plastic signs stating that you can have your new flat panel TV installed for $150.00 . Mrs Jones (name changed) called us the other day with this horror story. She hired a crew (2 dudes in a truck) to install her new Panasonic 50" plasma she just paid $1200.00 for. She had the mount, all the wires, electrical was there, etc... The installers mounted her tilting wall mount (15lbs) with 3" sheet rock screws, hitting the studs in the wall twice and missing the other 4 times. They then hung her 93lb TV on the mount, turned it on and said "they you go, we are all done!" No sooner than they left the driveway, the left side of the display fell down 7" and was caught by the mantle. She immediately called the number for the contractors and of course , no answer. CHT came the very next day, removed the flat panel, saw the nightmare (Sheetrock screws, seriously!) Secured the mount with lag bolts (the right way) and re-mounted the display. We could not fix the cracked edged of her new TV, We did however fill the huge gouge in the mantle with wood filler and re-painted.
Our service call was $175.00
