Q: Should a contractor carry workers compensation insurance?
I am curious about all the types of insurance I should be requesting from a contractor. I understand genral liability, but I would love more information from a professional about workers compensation.

I do not want to be help accountable for something that occurs on my home remodel from a hired company. That just wouldn't be fair. I have heard of some serious nightmares about this sort of thing happened. How can I be sure my contractor is covered?

Yes, a contractor should always carry worker's compensation insurance. This will protect you from any liability in case a contractor's workers are ever hurt or injured wile working on a project on your property.
Always check to ensure your contractor is covered for workers comp. They have to be within legal compliance with State insurance requirements. Also a general contractor should be covered, but their sub-contracted out contractors should also be covered. They may not have to be, but many general contractor will expect the sub-contractors to be covered.
