Q: Are you supposed to tip a contractor?
Do contractors expect to be tipped? Or, is everything included in the final bill? Thanks!

Orlando, FLA: The "true" way to tip a contractor.
Even though contractors are service oriented, their is no need to tip them. Yes, everybody enjoys to be payed more than they were expecting. I always include everything I expect to get paid in my invoice. The best way to tip a contractor, and to be honest, the reason I do the work I do for the price I charge is "word of mouth" advertising. There is no better tip than to tell the people you know what great service my company provides. I hope this was helpful.

A: Not required, but always appreciated.
As a professional Carpenter for over 20 years I have only ever received a tip a handful of times.
I don't feel it's required. Personally I'm very satisfied when a home owner appreciates and enjoys the work I have done for them.
A compliment and courtesy go a long way for me, but of course tips are still welcome and appreciated, but not expected.

Gilroy, CAA: On The "Tip" Of Your Tongue
Excuse the terrible title above, but my point was the best tip anyone can give in any business transaction is a kind word of mouth referral. Contractors should include all wages, fees, and product specs in there quote. Tipping is solely at the discretion of the buyer at the end of the transaction.
I have been given bottles of wine, champagne, movie tickets, gift cards, and others. They are great to receive, but my job is to complete such a job that they swear by my work to everyone who sees it or asks for a contractor they would recommend.
All of the above answers fit the question. No one should expect a tip. In the end it is truly your decision, but do not feel obligated to give a tip.

Bobby A from

Beaverton, ORA: To Tip or Not To Tip
Given the current conditions of our economic status some I believe would expect a tip However, with the current fiscal status of most citizens the tip factor is generally not expected because any monies paid out to said contractor is included in the contractual agreement and or invoice. Contractors in Oregon have a lot of expenses that homeowners or referrals take for granted such as License, bonding, insurance, overhead, employee wages, workers compensation, overtime, bookkeeping, which is all taxed by the "so called feds" Take into account marketing costs and many other related costs of running a small business and it adds up to a lot. No I never expect a tip, yes a tip is greatly appreciated when it is slow especially a painting contractor but never expected. Give out of the kindness of your own heart, the one you bless will in turn be blessed and it will eventually make it's way back to you through the law of reaping and sowing.

It's not necessary to tip.. A contractor should do a great job for the agreed upon price. Fromy a human standpoint it's great to tip. It makes you feel and them feel good. As a contractor who has received many tips, I always go above and beyond, but even more so after a tip. It's an act of kindness that begets kindness.
