Q: How can I fill in gaps in shrinking barn board type interior walls?
We are building an off-grid cabin in the White Mountains just over the NH border, in Maine. We have decided to use pine boards, horizontally on interior walls. The board are 1x8s, and they are being installed over high R board insulation and tar paper. We have completed one small area. We are living in the cabin as we are building. It has been -20 degrees at night, and we have two wood stoves cranking. The board is shrinking, of course, and I suspect it will expand in summer humidity??? What kind of flexible caulk or similar product can I use to fill in these gaps? I am going to polyurethane, but probably not stain.
