Q: Do subcontractors give the same prices to homeowners acting as their own GC as they do to professional general contractors?
If not, what's the typical difference? Does the homeowner see any of that savings if they go with a professional GC?

A: An Honest answer From a Contractor
We are licensed Electricians & General Contractors and do work for both private residential, commercial and Industrial customers and also work for other general contractors who require our "Licensed Services" such as Electrical work , we do charge other contractors full rate for that work and for most other construction services however if one particular GC happens to give a contractor such as us or another one a lot of work over long periods at different jobs than that GC would most likely get a break on hourly rates although fair.however the GC usually gets charged the same average work for electrical, plumbing or other trades on single job calls as the homeowner would however GCs will most likely mark up the subs price to the customer slightly for providing services in overseeing the project & dealing with the various sub-contractors.GCs are well worth the money during a new home or larger construction project and usually add about 25%-30% cost to a job as their fee for lots of hrs, calls, inspections, whip cracking on subs ect. & help in saving a lot of headaches to the homeowner if the GC is properly qualified. If they are not than they can simply add cost and headaches to any project,Check references or with town or state to see if any complaints and you should be good with a reputable GC. I hope this answers you question. Sincerly ,Dan Gilmore
