Q: Is Trex decking a dependable brand?
I ask this question because I have read a couple of blogs about Trex decking starting to flake or crack. I am thinking about having an Ipe deck installed, but having a manufactured product might be something I would entertain of their warranty was worth while.

The actual company "Trex" is often used to represent the generic composite or "alternative decking" market.
Lets see if I can directly answer your question. :)
Trex is a good brand. However they are not the only brand I would consider- but they should be considered for most applications. Of their product lines, look closest at their newest line- the Transcend line. It's a new product that is a capped composite, meaning a standard composite decking with a tough shell.
The Trex Transcend line has some great colors, good warranty, and should hold up very well.
When you're considering a hardwood for a deck, please keep in mind that it will require annual maintenance- more than most premium composites or PVC decking products will.
Neither is a wrong choice- but all options should be carefully weighed before making a decision.
