Q: What types of stones are good for walkways in a backyard?
What are my options for putting in a stone walkway in my backyard? What are the different types of stones that can be used? What do they each look like and what is the difference in cost between the different stones? Are there any other concerns? Thanks.

There are so many options these days in stone selection. Flagstone is your most common and they come in different shapes, sizes and color. However you can find a great selection at your local Home Depot or Lowe's. In keeping them firm in the ground your best bet is to use some kind of decomposed granite or Feines (usualy in blue or gold).

Your local landscape supply store may have MANY MORE options than Lowes or Home Depot, and probably a better inventory on hand. Bluestone (patterned or irregular) is popular across the United States. Your local landscape supplier may have great locally sourced stone that is just right for your climate. In addition to natural stone, take a look at pavers and wetcast products.
