Q: Can you really add a fire pit to your TimberTech deck?
Last night I was watching TV and saw a TimberTech commercial where a family was dancing around a built in fire pit on their deck. The commercial was a little hokey, but the fire pit was really cool. Can you really safely add a fire pit to your TimberTech deck? Is it expensive? Is it gas burning? Wood burning?

I'm thinking of rebuilding our deck. Something like this would probably sway what material/manufacturer I selected. ...The idea of a safe, built-in fire pit is really attractive. I thought that was something for high-end hotels, not my backyard!
Thanks for the info!

Short answer: Yes, you can.
Details:
A gas firepit is often safer, because it is more controlled than a wood burning fireplace.
Many manufactures have either Class A or Class B fire rated products, and if you are looking to add a heat source out on the deck, I'd take a look for one of these standards.
Lastly, we've installed slate into a deck surface several times to allow homeowners to place a grill or firepit on the slate- to help mitigate any fire risks.
Hope this helps,
